Composition
Grass pellets are roughage pellets composed of artificially dried grass leaves. Leaves are the nutrient richest part of grass which makes grass pellets very nutritious and suitable for horses which need to be fed grain free and horses which require feeds high in fibre. Even with the addition of molasses, grass pellets do not cause a peak in the blood sugar levels because the energy provided by grass is derived from fibres. When feeding grass pellets to your horse you can increase the amount of nutrients in your horses' diet without increasing or including concentrated feeds.
Grass pellets can be seen as a partial concentrate or roughage replacer but do not stimulate chewing movements as effectively as long roughage fibres.
- Can be fed dry as well as wet
- Rich in vitamins, minerals and trace elements present from natural origin
- Replacement or in combination with part of the roughage or concentrated feed
Feeding Advice

Grass pellets can replace part of the concentrated feed in the ration.
Product FAQ’S
Is it safe to feed the grass pellets dry?Yes it is, feeding the grass pellets dry causes no risk on esophageal obstruction. Can I replace roughage with grass pellets for my senior horse? If your horse has difficulties processing long stemmed fibre, roughage pellets such as grass pellets can provide a source of easy to chew roughage. However, roughage with more structure should be fed to stimulate saliva production to secure health of the digestive tract. Hartog has therefore developed the Senior which is suitable for horses to chew even with severe dental problems. If preferred the grass pellets can be soaked to turn the roughage pellets into a roughage mash. Are there additives included in the lucerne pellets? No, there are no additives included in the grass pellets. Because the grass is immediately dried in our factory after mowing the nutrients are already preserved.
